Scandinavian school of Brussels - blog

This weekend my dear friend Clara from Sweden came to visit me! She arrived on friday afternoon and came directly to the castle, it was so nice to be able to show her around where I live and that she got to meet my friends. We stayed at a hotel here in Waterloo which isn't far from town and in the evening we went out for a nice dinner and then went to meet some friends. Saturday we took the train into Brussels, which only takes about half an hour, and went around in the city doing some shopping! Brussels is a really good shopping place and they have a lot of good stores which you can't find in the scandinavian countries. In the evening Anna and Stephanie joined us for dinner and then we went out in town. I had such a great weekend with my friends and it is so nice having friends over to visit!! All the christmas decorations have begun in Brussels which was also really nice to see!

The christmas feeling is really on it's way to the castle. Today we had a christmas workshop for all the boarding students, where you could bake gingerbread and different chocolate sweets. You could also write christmas cards and decorate the castle and all the pubilc rooms that we have. The houseparents had bought in some christmas candy and served the swedish christmas drink julmust! 

This evening my friends and I decided to continue with the christmas feeling by decorating the christmas tree in my friends room. So me, Anna, Jonas, Nora and Stephanie decorated the tree and listened to christmas songs and had such a fun time together!

 

Last wednesday there was a music café here at school. It is an opportunity for students to perform what they have been doing at the culture school. Students perform with everything from drums, violin, piano, to playing in a band or singing.

Since I take singing lessons, I chose to perform a song that I have been working on for some time!

Yesterday we had an In-Service day here at SSB. The Gym 1 and 2 students who live at the castle went to a chocolate factory here in Waterloo to see how the famous belgium chocolates are made. I was there last year and therefore i did not participate this year. However, talking to the students that were there, they said that they had a very nice time!

 

Instead of going to the chocolate factory, some friends and I decided to walk into Waterloo. It was really nice weather so we could sit outside at a café. Then we just went around in some stores looking at christmas gifts and so on, can't believe that it's soon christmas already!

Last sunday all boarding students came back from the one week autumn holiday! I spent mine in Sweden visiting my family. It was nice to go home for a while, to catch up with friends and spend time with your family. Living at the boarding school makes you sometimes miss the people you have at home.

When we all returned on sunday we were all so happy to see each other again, we become like a big family here at the boarding school since you spend nearly every second of every day together. 

This week we have quite much school work to do, and what way is better than doing it with your friends?! I love studying together with people since you can discuss together and help each other with homework.
